SUSTAINABILITY & ESG

Leonard Peters Approach

The integration of energy efficiency and sustainable design principles within mechanical and electrical building services has become increasingly vital in modern construction and building management. As global concerns over resource depletion, environmental impact, and climate change intensify, the demand for buildings that minimise energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions has grown significantly. Mechanical and electrical systems, which include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and power distribution, play a crucial role in determining a building's overall energy performance. By prioritising sustainable design strategies and innovative technologies, these systems can be optimized to enhance occupant comfort, lower operational costs, and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

We pride ourselves at Leonard Peters providing an sustainable and innovative design within every scheme and challenging ourselves to produce more than the “norm”.

Reuse First

As buildings account for a substantial portion of global energy consumption and carbon emissions, integrating sustainable design principles has become essential. This Includes not only optimising new systems for energy efficiency but also considering the reuse of existing plant and equipment wherever feasible. By re-purposing and upgrading current assets, building projects can reduce their carbon footprint, minimize waste, and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

At Leonard Peters we have experience working closely with manufacturers and sub contractors to repair or re-purpose existing kit where possible and desired by the client team Into any new potential fit-out.

Inventive Sustainable Design

Where we start when working on a project with sustainability at the core. Defining our strategy early on Is what helps us drive towards net-carbon zero for our clients. It also means we can work within our clients' budgets to make the best Impact. Leonard Peters look to push the envelope on “standard design” to ensure a sustainable solution can be provided and Implemented. We speciallse In sustainable design MEP solutions - such as harnessing natural light to minimise power usage, waste water heat recovery, energy metering, Solar power.

De-Carbonisation

Leonard Peters have become specialist within the de-carbonisation of building across London.

Working closely with many long term clients we are helping many de carbonise their portfolios In a drive towards net-carbon zero for them.

We have successfully replaced and designed out the use of natural gas within commercial properties Including historic listed buildings including offices residential and commercial use.

This Includes the use of district heating networks, air or ground source heat pumps and even energy management within commercial kitchens where peak load exceeds supply to avoid upgrade requirements.

Sustainably Sourced Products

Product selection within Mechanical and Electrical design Is a key factor behind any sustainable design to ensure every aspect Is held accountable.

Leonard Peters have worked closely with manufacturers to ensure EPD's (Environmental Product Design) can be provided for products specified.

EPD's reports for Individual products provide the summary of life cycle assessment results, environmental Impact data and product DNA are all available

Correct Set Up

Whilst many projects can be designed to Integrate sustainable solutions throughout, Commissioning and correct set up at hand over play a key part within buildings operating to their peak efficiency.

Leonard Peters (Assisted In part by LPM) ensure full and correct at handover of every project to achieve all goals set up within the early phases.

ACCREDITATIONS

At Leonard Peters we can help assist in accreditations certifications for the following:

One Click LCA logo

Using the Industry leading software One Click LCA we are able to quantify the embodied carbon present within the design of the space and offer mitigation via carbon reduction strategies, offset or removal to assist in lowering your environmental Impact.

BREEAM logo

BREEAM evaluates a buildings sustainable value through It's design and construction against a recognised framework to produce a rating and Implement best practice. Using the BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit-Out assessment the proposed space could achleve a minimum of BREEAM RFO 'Very Good; with aspirations for 'Excellent'.

International WELL Building Institute logo

The WELL Building Standard utilise science backed evidence to ensure that the health and well-being of building occupants Is at the forefront of every project through It's design and operational policy. Following revlew of the base bulld a pre-assessment determined dellv-ering WELL 'Gold certification Is possible for the proposed space via our In-house assessors.

NABERS logo

NABERS Is a simple, rellable sustainability rating for the bullt environment. Like the efficiency star ratings on your fridge or washing machine, NABERS provides a rating from one to six stars for bulldings efficiency across: Energy, Water, Waste, Indoor environment. This helps bullding owners to understand their bullding's performance versus comparable bulldings In the same sector, providing a benchmark for progress.
